I lost my mojo and there was just too much going on, in life and in my head, to concentrate on blogging. But I am back due to some lovely comments and encouragement from a reader. <p></p></p><p>At some point I may post about what has been happening with us, but those posts will take some thought and structure that I don’t have the energy for right now.</p><p>So how about we catch up?</p><p>Miss 14 (OMG!) has started second year High School and has been dabbling in netball and creating new friends and Master 10(how did we reach this point so soon?) has started his second last year of Primary School and has been enjoying mastering his moves in Mixed Martial Arts and scooter tricks.</p><p>I am continuing to play netball weekly, working and trying to find a rhythm. I am enjoying using Essential Oils for mental health and general wellbeing. </p><p>Hubby has been working hard and we have also tried to make the most of long weekends and days off work to enjoy some family time and some down time to relax.</p><p>So, in general, that is where we are right now. I want to read back through old posts and perhaps update you on things have progressed. If you want to read about something in particular then I would love to hear from you.</p><p><br></p>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11920864212300040383noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9206081300956507736.post-80081909215551344162017-03-07T08:32:00.005+11:002017-03-07T10:18:45.919+11:00Cubby For A CauseDid you know there was an annual Cubby House Competition in Australia? I sure didn't, but the 2017 Cubby House Challenge is in full swing and 5 teams, made up of leading designers and architects, are using all of their skills and creativity to create 5 amazing cubbies. The result is not only the award for Australia's Best Cubby but much needed funds toward support for youths at risk of homelessness.
<div>
</div>
<div>The 5 entries are varied, including Kooky Cubby, using 3D printing; Rapunzel Tower, a fairytale-like castle; MySpace, a Minecraft-inspired cube; Chameleon, a Tee Pee inspired Cubby and Glowb, a globe shaped reflective sphere. </div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
The designs incorporate the ideas of creativity, shelter, fun, enjoyment and the weird and wonderful.
The Cubby House Challenge is co-ordinated by Kids Under Cover, a national youth homelessness charity established in 1989. Kids Under Cover works to provide the foundations to strengthen connection to family, community and education to those at-risk youth, aiming to make a lasting difference in their lives.
</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>The teams shortlisted for the competition showed an understanding and passion in building the best place for children. They bring incredible ideas, clever and creative design and some new technology to the job of building fun and magical places for children to play and grow. </div>
<div>
</div>
<div>Kids Under Cover CEO, Jo Swift, says "The funds raised through the auction of these cubbies contribute to the crucial work of Kids a Under Cover. In 2017, our goal is raise a record $150,000. All funds raised are directed towards keeping at-risk young people in contact with their families and networks." Funds raised, this year, go toward investing in relocatable studios for at-risk young people. </div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
The 2017 Cubby House Challenge entries are judged for the following awards:
<ul>
<li>Australia's Best Cubby</li>
<li>Melbourne's Best Cubby</li>
<li>Best Architectural Cubby</li>
<li>Best Interior Design Cubby</li>
<li>Most Imagainative Cubby</li>
<li>Kid's Choice</li>
</ul>
The judging panel consists of Peter Maddison, Host of Lifestyle Channel's Grand Designs Australia; Joe Snell, Architect and Judge on Channel 7's House Rules; Fiona Lynch, Interior Designer; Lucy Feagins, Editor of The Design Files; Alice Stolz, National Managing Editor at Domain; Dr Justin Coulson, Parenting Expert and children, because they are hugely qualified in this subject.
</div>
<div>More information if Kids Under Cover can be found at www.kuc.org.au</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
I love all of the designs but think that the Minecraft inspired Cubby might be a favourite. I will be keeping my eye in the decision on March 30th. <img src="file:///page1image22144" alt="page1image22144" width="162.600000" height="153.000000" style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"><div>

Even with first aide training, knowing what to do when the moment comes to resuscitating and saving a life can be forgotten in panic. Using an AED (automated external defibrillator) is easy if you know where to find one and can follow instructions. This short film is a great reminder.
Urban Lifesavers (not-for-profit) has launched a short film ‘Back in a Heart Beat’ to educate laypersons on why, when & how to apply an automated external defibrillator (AED) to save the life of a victim of sudden cardiac arrest.

‘Back in Heart Beat’ film can be found on Urban Lifesavers YouTube channel.
<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7346e">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7346e</a>
Urban Lifesavers is a registered charity dedicated to raising awareness about sudden cardiac arrest and educating the community on saving lives with early CPR & early defibrillation. Anyone can be an Urban Lifesaver and early defibrillation by bystanders before the arrival of paramedics gives the victim the greatest chance of survival.

Minutes matter to save a life. AEDs should be a commonplace as fire extinguishers and everyone should know how to use one.
The vision is ‘No More Deaths from Cardiac Arrest’.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11920864212300040383noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9206081300956507736.post-49705902813527275822017-02-06T21:39:00.005+11:002017-02-14T03:47:13.447+11:00Monday Mentions: Local Hobart Talent IS Wicked.This week's mention had to go, hands down, to the incredibly talented beings that starred in and contributed to the Hobart production of Wicked.
I caught the performance last week and it was amazing, from start to finish. Wicked is the Broadway production which tells of the two Witches of Oz; the good and the bad, and how they became to be so. Brought to Hobart during January and February in 2017 by the Show Company together with Allan Jeffrey and Leiz Moore and on the stage of the beautiful Theatre Royal, the show was set for success.

If you missed this production, there is quite the line up on the agenda at The Theatre Royal in Hobart for 2017. <div style="text-align: justify;">
Welcome to my very first Monday Mentions post.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
There are many things I am enjoying and it would be rude not to share them with you. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Podcasts have become a great resource given the pace of our lifestyles, and there so many great podcasts out there waiting to be heard.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiyOV1aY0Rqx4e9WBrux6WME3zBnFPFkKJglAK86wsMgzTx_9qOh8zu6tODgAj76T1uknQkvxcd61z6uLtRYkHlrl3nb3OQcFO2ulNSguvu9Ia_7aXY6u-yBZNG3mBN-GyhxISI7eBfXyI/s640/blogger-image-531515716.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiyOV1aY0Rqx4e9WBrux6WME3zBnFPFkKJglAK86wsMgzTx_9qOh8zu6tODgAj76T1uknQkvxcd61z6uLtRYkHlrl3nb3OQcFO2ulNSguvu9Ia_7aXY6u-yBZNG3mBN-GyhxISI7eBfXyI/s640/blogger-image-531515716.jpg" width="425" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
What is a podcast?</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
A podcast is a free digital audio or video file that is available on the internet to be listened to or viewed.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Why do I love them?</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Because I am busy but I love to hear what other people are doing or thinking. I love to learn new things constantly! The beauty of technology is that I can listen whilst doing my work in the office or washing up. I can even listen via Bluetooth in my car whilst driving!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
There are so many podcasters out there right now covering every topic imaginable. Some podcasts are entertaining, others are educational and a few are just wacky.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The podcasts I'm enjoying currently include an ex-navy seal talking about physical and mental health, and interviewing others to get their view on leading a great life. I also listen to a couple who have taken real steps to slow down their way of living and what that involves. Also, I love a podcast of two mums talking about the funny side of parenting.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Where can you find podcasts?</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<a href="http://www.apple.com/itunes/">iTunes(Apple)</a> is great for finding podcasts, subscribing to them and keeping them together in order. <a href="https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mobi.beyondpod">BeyondPod Podcasters</a> is the Android equivalent found in Google Play. There are many other programs and sites to assist you to tune in to your favourite podcast which can be installed on your desktop or played directly through your web browser.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So if you are <u>not</u> currently enjoying podcasts, I would encourage you to do so. I can guarantee that you will find one, or many, that you enjoy too.</div>

A friend also took their own life a few months later. We were sideswiped by a health scare in our home from which we have hopefully recovered and learned from. My anxiety built and crescendoed as a result of these experiences, and threatened to overwhelm me. I took actions to overcome it and kept working with the tools I have armed myself with.</div><div><br></div><div>Throughout 2016, much of my routine has gone by the wayside. The events we were experiencing took up a great deal of our time and energy. I thought many times about writing but found I had no motivation to do so, and little concentration and inspiration to get any words down.</div><div><br></div><div>It has been a struggle to remember that good things also happened for us in 2016, as the bad often overshadows the good, but they did. Not only did we make it through to the other side, the children had a great year at school, despite the events. We enjoyed time with friends and family, and celebrated two major birthdays and many minor ones. We did our best to still attend to the volunteering we had already committed to. Hubby and I worked hard for our employers and are thankful for another year in employment. </div><div><br></div><div>Regardless, I am glad for a new year and a fresh start. </div><div><br></div><div>Onward and upward!</div><div><br></div><div><br></div>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11920864212300040383noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9206081300956507736.post-89233020033961624212016-10-07T15:30:00.000+11:002016-10-07T15:30:45.313+11:00Recovering<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">

<h4 style="text-align: left;">
As much as I don't want to be a hoarder, I do tend to accumulate things. Diana has written a great guest post on how to declutter and clear away to give you that organised feeling we crave in the home. Enjoy!</h4>
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;">
<span lang="EN-PH" style="font-family: "tahoma" , "sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">Before you decide to bring something home to
keep, ask yourself if you’ll eventually consider it as just another knickknack
in your haystack of orphaned stuff. Yes, hoarding can be a rewarding
compulsion, but living space is best reserved for the essentials. This is
arguable if you have money to burn, but like novelty souvenirs, clutter is
often something you can do without. As far as mementos go, a picture can paint
a thousand words and will also occupy just a few megabytes of space. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;">
<span lang="EN-PH" style="font-family: "tahoma" , "sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">Here are 7 tips to help you declutter your
home and reclaim lost territory.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;">
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span lang="EN-PH" style="font-family: "tahoma" , "sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">1.
Define What Qualifies as Clutter<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDxYG4628bPpYInuSsqbqtbGFxqO-TFixYKui9YQ2yRj6vlh3_gH76fM7yBYbO-kdrsG1CG8QDrqczzxfZe8Sn4nNLZOX3GbmiFcs86-S6IFGh2DoFflmKiX2sTKgJQuL9JiD_gw5WPeA/s1600/mflfn0I.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDxYG4628bPpYInuSsqbqtbGFxqO-TFixYKui9YQ2yRj6vlh3_gH76fM7yBYbO-kdrsG1CG8QDrqczzxfZe8Sn4nNLZOX3GbmiFcs86-S6IFGh2DoFflmKiX2sTKgJQuL9JiD_gw5WPeA/s400/mflfn0I.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<span lang="EN-PH" style="font-family: "tahoma" , "sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">This is the hardest part, because
recognizing something as clutter is accepting it doesn’t belong in your house. Decluttering
is like spring cleaning, but often involves items with sentimental value. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;">
<span lang="EN-PH" style="font-family: "tahoma" , "sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">You have to think of it as shedding skin--something
has to go and make room for better things. If you can group stuff in piles of
wants and needs, it can help you visualize how much room you’ll regain in the aftermath.
Having clutter is like having an unassembled mess of IKEA furniture--you need
to know when it’s time to move on and let it go.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;">
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span lang="EN-PH" style="font-family: "tahoma" , "sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">2. Divide
and Conquer<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;">
<span lang="EN-PH" style="font-family: "tahoma" , "sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">Decluttering the entire house can be
overwhelming, so it’s best if you sort in sections, such as one cabinet or room
at a time. Years of hoarded stuff blur the lines between what’s necessary,
trivial, or disposable, and you may not have time to sort everything in one sweep.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;">
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span lang="EN-PH" style="font-family: "tahoma" , "sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">3. Make
the Most out of Reclaimed Space<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;">
<span lang="EN-PH" style="font-family: "tahoma" , "sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">Once you’ve regained space to spare, you
need to organize things. It’s time to compartmentalize. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;">
<span lang="EN-PH" style="font-family: "tahoma" , "sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">You’ll be amazed to see the space you’ll recover
with proper storage. If you take pride in cramming stuff into a suitcase, then
you can apply the same principle in decluttering. Who would’ve thought there’s
plenty of storage space underneath the bed? This is also opportunity to think
in terms of shelves and stacking boxes.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIhcOKqPiMidk4ihVrHd99Y3QanGhAZG3nqqOzFeJ1_O38e8tVMfciRlEFVxccCXvqmLYZHH7f81YqFdl-rhv5lbDPUQE0YL0qAC5kKf80mXE2RXKPX71NQA0YaXCFYOGxx2HyJnD1qLI/s1600/mqyuicO.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="425" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIhcOKqPiMidk4ihVrHd99Y3QanGhAZG3nqqOzFeJ1_O38e8tVMfciRlEFVxccCXvqmLYZHH7f81YqFdl-rhv5lbDPUQE0YL0qAC5kKf80mXE2RXKPX71NQA0YaXCFYOGxx2HyJnD1qLI/s640/mqyuicO.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span lang="EN-PH" style="font-family: "tahoma" , "sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">4. Have
an “Undecided Bin” for Stuff You Might Need <o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;">
<span lang="EN-PH" style="font-family: "tahoma" , "sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">If you’re undecided regarding the usefulness
of some items, it’ll help if you dedicate space for these. This will ease the
transition. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;">
<span lang="EN-PH" style="font-family: "tahoma" , "sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">Don’t let your recycling bin exceed maximum
capacity, though. For example, you’ll get around to using that exercise ball,
as you can and should exercise. In the meantime, let it sit in limbo while you
muster up the courage to get off your bum.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;">
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span lang="EN-PH" style="font-family: "tahoma" , "sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">5. Focus
on the Task at Hand<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;">
<span lang="EN-PH" style="font-family: "tahoma" , "sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">When you’re decluttering, it’s best to have
an honest assessment of your belongings. But you can’t declutter with a
preoccupied mind. It impairs judgment and you may dispose stuff you need. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;">
<span lang="EN-PH" style="font-family: "tahoma" , "sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">If a cluttered desk is evidence of a cluttered
mind, then decluttering is a task you’ll botch with a distracted mind.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;">
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span lang="EN-PH" style="font-family: "tahoma" , "sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">6. Keep
the Fire Burning<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;">
<span lang="EN-PH" style="font-family: "tahoma" , "sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">Give yourself credit if you did great with
the task, but realize that clutter will stack up if you’re not deliberate with
future acquisitions. It’s a perpetual effort. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;">
<span lang="EN-PH" style="font-family: "tahoma" , "sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">Learn from mistakes, and be ruthless when it
comes to sorting out your stuff. You didn’t expect to receive two coffeemakers
for your birthday? Re-gift one of them, preferably to an astronomically distant
relative (re-gifting is a necessary evil when you receive unnecessary gifts). <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;">
<span lang="EN-PH" style="font-family: "tahoma" , "sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">You should also think things through before making
each purchase. Do you want it or need it? Can you afford it? <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;">
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span lang="EN-PH" style="font-family: "tahoma" , "sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">7. Find
Your Middle Ground<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;">
<span lang="EN-PH" style="font-family: "tahoma" , "sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">In your epic struggle against clutter, it’s
possible you’ll end up becoming the hoarder’s worst nightmare: the minimalist.
While this is in many ways a good thing, hoarding stuff has its fun side, when
it’s done in a controlled and calibrated manner. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;">
<span lang="EN-PH" style="font-family: "tahoma" , "sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">You’re justified in buying clothes and shoes
for special occasions, in the same way anyone has the right to spend hours
watching cat videos online. Just make sure you declutter often, or in the case
of watching cat videos, close all those browser tabs when you’re finished.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;">
<span lang="EN-PH" style="font-family: "tahoma" , "sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">Staying on top of clutter comes with a
learning curve. Give yourself slack whenever you slide back to your hoarding
habit. It takes time, but everything you decide to lose will be rewarded with roomier
living space and a calmer spirit.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Are you living your ideal life? We all imagine what our lives will look like. Notice that I said "Ideal", not perfect .... be realistic. This is not the time to say "No, my prince charming did not come on a horse and swoop me off to his Castle". We are not living in a fairytale! So, when you look at the aspects of your life, right now, would you say that it is ideal?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_mzy8lSa1cOhvkGkJRzcF4MAJEvAjqE_bkCOi97KryMnVAfDEyowmml41hVknmh8Osi57bBCOeLE_5j05ykXN-0HrF2CJlClychvIAeYbEehOUJWvAty8_Cr87y8baLBBPwtqjE3rAuA/s1600/o8nT30s.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="422" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_mzy8lSa1cOhvkGkJRzcF4MAJEvAjqE_bkCOi97KryMnVAfDEyowmml41hVknmh8Osi57bBCOeLE_5j05ykXN-0HrF2CJlClychvIAeYbEehOUJWvAty8_Cr87y8baLBBPwtqjE3rAuA/s640/o8nT30s.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Your definition of ideal should <u>not</u> involve comparing yourself or your life to others'. Ideal should involve <u>your</u> feelings and what <u>you</u> rate as important for <u>you</u>. An ideal life should be about all the pieces of the puzzle fitting neatly together. Ideal should feel like everything is balanced, because you have worked out what is most important to you and you have let go of things you don't rate. </div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
If we were to break down the areas of our lives they may include our home, our schedule, our job, our friends, our financial situation, our kids, how we parent, our attitude, our relationships, our fitness, our health, the way we deal with situations, our contribution to our community and the world ... The list could be quite long, but what matters for one may not even appear on someone else's list.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Life moves fast and we don't always have control over the way things go, but we often have choices. As we grow, our ways of looking at things often change, as our idea of ideal can change too. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
That's OK. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
What we think is an ideal life as a child, or teen, or young adult, may be very different to our idea of ideal when we have experienced life and have some knowledge of the world. Definitions change!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
When you look at all of the aspects of your life, right now, how does reality compare to your ideal, imagined life?</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Which bits are close? </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Which bits are vastly different?</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Why are there differences? </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Do you want to reach your ideal?</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
What do you have to do to make that happen?</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Have you sacrificed some areas of your life to build another? </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEit6yolAuTNJgOTgYHl7ZLM40WR5hk3SGGFci2gTTqKY1sB2RuAkVrGDRF2kofih5iM6kz7G6efORjF5pu72mJWUUAjWf4i-L0ipVy1AnrDz9Rb-4sZU_xOG_mArF9NSSrHp-Ij3qRK_Pw/s1600/mVEdtvA+%25281%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="568" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEit6yolAuTNJgOTgYHl7ZLM40WR5hk3SGGFci2gTTqKY1sB2RuAkVrGDRF2kofih5iM6kz7G6efORjF5pu72mJWUUAjWf4i-L0ipVy1AnrDz9Rb-4sZU_xOG_mArF9NSSrHp-Ij3qRK_Pw/s640/mVEdtvA+%25281%2529.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
For me?</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I know that there are some aspects of my life that aren't necessarily ideal, yet they are reasonable. I can cope with the stage they are at. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
There are a few areas that I have pondered over and toyed with most of my life. Trying to get them to a stage of "reasonable" is a struggle, with the changes within life, myself and the world always tilting the table one way or another. These areas will probably be a work in progress for years to come. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
There are a couple of areas that have just fallen into place over time, with little effort, and continue to be easy. I dare not mess with these, and ask no questions and count my blessings.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Mostly, I have a tendency to plod along, being swept down the stream of life and doing the best to not hit my head on the boulders on the way. Occasionally I stand back to look things over, like I am doing right now. I believe that nearly anything can be improved, so of course, there are always a few things that I note are not, in fact, ideal in my life, and that its time to get to work and change them.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I think that having an ideal(not prefect!) image of our lives is healthy. Like dreams, it gives us something to aim for. As long as the the image is realistic and achievable, why should our lives be less than ideal?</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>

2015 was here and disappeared quickly, so I thought the beginning of 2016 was a good time to talk about practising Mindfulness and Living In The Moment. People often have problems with dwelling on the past with Depression and worrying about the future with Anxiety, so learning to concentrate on the here and now becomes a useful tool. Here are tried and tested tips I can recommend.<br />
<br />
1. Experience something in your day fully. Whether it be a cup of tea, your daily shower or a workout, choose one thing to give your undivided attention to and really take note and appreciate every little detail. <br />
As you make your tea notice the water pouring into the cup and swirl around. Watch as the steam rises. Breathe in the warm aroma of the tea. Feel the warmth of the cup with your hands. Take a sip and follow the warm liquid as it makes its way past your lips and down the throat. Indulge in each sip and do nothing else but enjoy this cup of tea until the end. Note the sounds around you, the thoughts that come to mind and the feelings you experience throughout the process. Don't feel guilty about dedicating the time and all of your thoughts to this one task. It is five minutes out of your day, leaving plenty of time to rush around and endure the rest of the hectic day.<br />
<br />
2. Note 3 things from your day that brought you joy and/or gratitude. Obviously this should be done in the later part of the day and could be written in a journal or even on social media or discussed and shared at the dinner table. This reminds us that whether the day has been generally good or bad, there is always some things to be grateful for. <br />
<br />
3. Practice some mindful breathing. Take the time to sit or lay quietly, still your body and breath deeply and purposefully down into the stomach. Feel the breath coming into the nostrils and follow its course down into the lungs. Place your hands on your stomach and feel the rise and fall as you breathe. Feel your lungs deflate as you blow each breath out slowly and completely. Close your eyes and concentrate on each breath, clearing your mind as you do so. Let thoughts come and go as you keep bringing your focus back to the breath coming in the nostrils, follow it path down to the lungs. Imagine the life giving breath swirling around your body, travelling to your muscles, organs and blood. Feel the breath sooth and relax your muscles. <br />

Things to help others. Things to help me grow. Things I enjoy. Sometimes though, I have intentions to do things but they sit on my list until opportunity practically runs me down ... or someone gives me a shove.<div><br></div><div>And that's exactly what happened today. I was giving my regular donation of whole blood. This is something I have been doing regularly for a few years now. </div><div><br></div><div>I noted the sign that stated that my blood type is needed on another list. I even commented to the nurse how full the other side of the donation room was.</div><div><br></div><div>This is when my nurse looked me in the eye and said "You should donate plasma." Of course I should! And I made the appointment while I was still filling my little bag with beautiful whole blood. The list goes on and on.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">As a regular whole blood donor who has never had a complication whilst donating, this is the logical next step for me.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">And as an extra incentive, the biscuits really are awesome! I find them interesting and entertaining and listen to them whilst doing my work. I know .... concentrating on multiple things at once is not good practice! <br><br></p>
<p>As I recently went through the current <a href="http://www.podcastchart.com/categories/health-podcasts">Podcast</a><a href="http://www.podcastchart.com/categories/health-podcasts"> Chart Health 1-20</a> I noticed how many podcasts are linked to mental health. This is clearly an indication of the current need for information and the push to talk more about Mental Health.<br></p>
<p>Here are a few that are listed:<br></p>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
How often do you make promises? How often do you promise to do something for yourself? A big part of Mental Health illnesses is making sure that your needs are met. Most of the time though, we let our needs slip to the bottom of a very long list. It is time to make a promise to yourself, to make your Mental Health a priority. You can do that right here!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div>
With World Mental Health Day on October 10th, it is a great reminder that occasionally (or perhaps quite often), we should be checking in with ourselves to make sure we are taking care of ourselves.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
If you click here to check out the <a href="https://1010.org.au/promises">Promise Wall</a> you may be astounded by a number of things. Firstly, the extraordinary number of Mental Health promises already recorded on the <a href="https://1010.org.au/">1010 website</a>. Also, the diversity of promises people are making concerning the needs they have identified to assist their Mental Health. Lastly, the people listed are as diverse as the promises, showing that Mental Health is a common concern across the board, and I am sure that I recognise a few familiar faces on this list.</div>
<div>

<div>
Here is my promise:<br /><!-- Go to your Addthis.com Dashboard to update any options -->

You can make your own Mental Health promise </span><a href="https://1010.org.au/promise/add" style="text-align: justify;">here</a></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Once you have made your promise, it can be shared on Facebook, Twitter or on your own blog like I am, so that those around you are triggered to consider their own Mental Health needs too. Let's face it .... we all need a prod occasionally. You have the potential to change someone's life just by posting your own promise.</div>

<div>
Finally, the call has been made for food labels in Australia to single out "added sugars" to show how much sweetener has been added to our foods. Sugars are added sometimes to foods that you wouldn't think needed sweetening. These sugars come in so many forms that the consumer can no longer name all on the huge list.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
In my local newspaper, The Mercury, consumer group Choice was today named as pushing for the definitive labelling which would separate naturally occurring sugars from sugar that is added. Current labels show "Total Sugars" for each product. This leaves the consumer having to look through the ingredient list to find that producers have added sugars to products under various names, such as molasses, fructose, glucose, dextrose, syrup, honey, etc. In fact, Choice has identified 43 names for sugars that are found in current food products. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The ingredient listings for some products are crazy, long, and include names hard to pronounce and some even known as numbers. Is it any wonder that consumers are wary of such products, not knowing why these ingredients are included or what they even are? To read that your cereal has several sugar alternatives added, despite its claim to being healthy, makes you wonder whether the sugar is trying to hide other distasteful ingredients.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
This is not my first <a href="http://www.mj-brightsideup.blogspot.com.au/2013/11/fats-sugar-diet-and-cholesterol.html">rant on sugar</a> and possibly it won't be the last. Sugar is fast becoming a product high on the consumer awareness radar, so why keep adding it in colossal amounts? We should be getting enough natural sugar from our daily intake of fruits, vegetables and dairy without adding more.<br />
</div>
<div>
<div>
I can't believe that it has taken this long, but I am glad that Choice, backed by Food Ministers, has taken the stand to help the Australian consumer know exactly what is in these produced goods. Knowledge is power, and the consumer deserves to know the sugar content in clear, concise labels.<!-- Go to your Addthis.com Dashboard to update any options -->

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Snow was predicted and snow was received across Tasmania today. The hype was building, the cynics were voicing their doubt, and the child in us all was hoping it was true. Unless you were awake through the night and periodically checking for snow like a child watching for Santa, then you awoke a dusting or a dumping of snow across most areas of Tasmania.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Whilst it is not uncommon for parts of Tasmania to receive snow, it is extremely rare for so much of the state to have snow, and it was received down to sea level. If, somehow, you were oblivious to the outside world, it was soon in your face from every social media direction. Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and many other mediums were full of pictures and stories of snow across the state. Children and parents waited anxiously for news of school closures, and those who needed to venture out were checking for road closure announcements.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I was in primary school in the 80's when I experienced snow in my own backyard, which resulted in a snow day being called due to frozen pipes, and a huge snow fight in my cul-de-sac. My children see snow every year, as we usually make the journey to a snow blessed, elevated location at least once annually to have a play. To have snow falling around our house and to be able to scoop it off our own letterbox if quite a different experience.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So as not to bore you with too much detail, how about I just show you in pictures.</div>

I have become less picky about where I store my stress as time has passed. It was shoulders and neck, but now any part of my body is a target. It is important for me, and my body, to release the tension regularly. One of the techniques I have used from the beginning is Massage.</div>

There are many forms of Massage, and everyone has their preference. I enjoy a Relaxation Massage with lavender added to the oil, but what my body and muscles <b>need</b> is a more vigorous Massage which can get right into the muscles and between them.</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhr_NSCh1oSFQ4mx6QeuLSvvKxQYvZBckePqPJSymnJ4icCokiP0zWAQ9Bfa-BIB1CqgXW4rWHjUCHZYc5g2DiIzXyTOe_BoKnaH2R2SCjTDKnj36Aw4rjlShmcmEFh1TcgqUfLiCmJqU0/s1600/n2lBefU.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="305" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhr_NSCh1oSFQ4mx6QeuLSvvKxQYvZBckePqPJSymnJ4icCokiP0zWAQ9Bfa-BIB1CqgXW4rWHjUCHZYc5g2DiIzXyTOe_BoKnaH2R2SCjTDKnj36Aw4rjlShmcmEFh1TcgqUfLiCmJqU0/s320/n2lBefU.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: justify;">
Finding a Massage Therapist is just as tricky as finding any other therapist. </div>
<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: justify;">
Techniques, behaviour and the understanding of the body and muscular system differs from therapist to therapist, so it is good to make sure they are qualified, and that you get recommendations and try them to find the right one for you.</div>
<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: justify;">
These are my preferences whilst having a massage:</div>
<ul style="text-align: justify;">
<li>a quiet environment. I enjoy soothing sounds or relaxing music playing in the background. I also prefer as little talk as possible between myself and the therapist.</li>
<li>a warm, dimly lighted room (for comfort)</li>
<li>a massage table with arm rest (I find laying on my belly and trying to balance my arms alongside me on the table a real pain)</li>
<li>the use of heat, pressure and percussion ( all 3 techniques are wonderful if done well and suit different parts of the body)</li>
<li>a general massage from toes to scalp, with concentration on my troubled areas </li>
<li>organising my day after the massage so there is no sport or rigorous activities planned (my sessions are long and thorough, so I am exhausted and sleepy afterward)</li>
<li>a professional therapist. Massage is skin to skin contact in a small space, so the therapist needs to display absolute professionalism and discretion.</li>
<li>water to end the session. Massage releases toxins, so a glass of water is a great way to remind me to keep flushing the toxins through my system afterward.</li>
</ul>
<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: justify;">
The regularity of your massages will depend on your needs, as well as maybe your budget and schedule. I book a regular monthly massage which goes for 11/2 hours. If my budget and schedule were more flexible then I would have more. Most Massages can be claimed as a Health Fund benefit if you have health insurance.</div>
<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: justify;">
Most of my experiences with Massage have been positive, but I have heard some terrible tales.</div>
<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: justify;">
As with all things, try it out, and see if it works for you.</div>

Poor Tasmania suffers a lot of backlash in regard to it's weather. Many would describe Tasmanian weather as cold and wet, and whilst this can be sometimes true, the weather here is often great, and it's seasons and predictability is changing. My son wasted no time in making the most of the water when Southern Tasmanian served up great weather for Easter. He wasn't the only one paddling around in the water either.<br />

<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"></span></span><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"><span>A significant number of Australians are deficient

minutes of sunlight each day significantly boosts the production of
vitamin D in your body? Vitamin D not only helps protect your body
in maintaining healthy immune function, but it also assists in
general wellbeing. Unfortunately, with the days getting shorter and
the daylight hours diminishing, winter can be a difficult time to
get the necessary sunshine, so supplements such as USANA’s
Vitamin D can be beneficial.</span></span></span> <span style="font-size: large;"><b><span style="background: none repeat scroll 0% 0% white;"></span></b></span></div>

</div>
<div class="MsoListParagraph" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="background: white; font-size: 10.5pt;">Like any other time of year,
staying hydrated during winter is extremely important. Even though
you may not feel as thirsty or sweat as much during the cooler
months, drinking plenty of water is still essential to help
eliminate waste and prime your body against infections from
pathogens<span style="font-size: small;">.</span></span><span style="font-size: large;"><b><span style="background: none repeat scroll 0% 0% white;"><br /></span></b></span></div>

<span style="font-size: large;"><b><span style="background: none repeat scroll 0% 0% white;">Get moving</span></b></span><span style="background: white; font-size: 10.5pt;"> </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="background: white; font-size: 10.5pt;">Never underestimate the
importance of regular activity. Exercising is of course a great way
to get into shape, but it also increases the number of natural
killer cells in our bodies that fight off infection. So even if you
only have time to walk around the block, making the effort goes a
long way in keeping you healthy and infection free as the weather
cools down.</span><b><span style="background: white; font-size: 10.5pt;"></span></b><span style="font-size: large;"><b><span style="background: none repeat scroll 0% 0% white;"></span></b></span></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="background: white; font-size: 10.5pt;">Eating brightly coloured fruit
and vegetables is also a great way to keep infections at bay. They
are rich in vitamin C and E and antioxidants. Their ability to
increase the functionality of your immune system means that adding
these fresh fruits and vibrant veggies to your daily diet helps
your body safe guard itself from nasty viruses, while tasting
delicious too!</span><span style="font-size: large;"><b><span style="background: none repeat scroll 0% 0% white;"></span></b></span></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><b><span style="background: none repeat scroll 0% 0% white;">Stress less</span></b></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="background: white; font-size: 10.5pt;">You’re probably aware
that stress isn’t good for you, but very few people are aware
of how much it actually impacts your health. Stress takes an
enormous toll on the immune system and makes you more vulnerable to
everything from a common cold to major diseases. So if you
don’t already, make sure you get enough sleep and take time
out to do the things you enjoy.</span>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
My daughter and I have been attending a weekly Boot camp. It is
something we both need to do for various reasons and it has become "our
thing". The exercise is the main drawcard, the group is local and the
personal trainer encourages you to reach and even push through your
current fitness level which is a must for both of us. We both have a
tendency to back off before we reach our true potential. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
At
first I was happy to attend, do my session through gritted teeth and
head home, ticking it off my list as something I had to do for both of
our well being, both physical and mental. It was on my weekly to-do
list, like a chore or weekly meeting with compulsory attendance.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Somehow,
and quite magically I have realised that I no longer see it as just
another thing on my list. I now look forward to the hourly session,
which is different each week. It is always a good workout which keeps it
interesting and challenging. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I realise though that
each week I am needing Boot Camp for the many benefits it now brings,
whether it is the relief it brings to my Anxiety Symptoms, the social
interaction of the group, or the hour dedicated to self healing.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<h3 style="text-align: center;">
<i>The
bonus of Boot Camp has turned out to be the group itself. </i></h3>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Initiated and
run by a person who walks the talk by continuing to improve her health
after losing close to 50 kilos, the personal trainer wants others to
feel the same satisfaction and pride in taking control of their fitness
and getting the best out of life. The people that make up the group are
quite a mixture in fitness, experience, age and personality. We have
felt welcomed from the start and the group is strong in its belief of
encouragement and is displayed each and every week, which also spills
over to encouragement on social media in daily achievements. We both
enjoy the group experience rather than exercising solo or one on one.
Everyone has different skills and assets, and I have been continually
inspired by many members in their achievements and commitment to their
individual goals.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I am thankful that we have joined this group, and thankful that we feel so supported.</div>

You either embrace them or get swept up by them. Personally, I like change. I like to see progress, growth and transformation. We are experiencing a time of change within our household right now. It seems to be working well for everyone and we are all finding our groove. We are still in the early stages.<br/>
<br/>
We have just gone from one working parent to both working. <br/>
It has been quite full on and we have had to be organised in our daily routines. With one parent at home in the day we have often made some last minute choices like what was for dinner, let's charge the kids iPods, a quick visit to the supermarket, a catchup with a friend, a random moment of chaotic room reorganizing, a walk with dogs. Now all of these things need a bit more planning and structure to make the house run smoothly.<br/>
<br/>
The kids have stepped up when asked and even initiated their own new routine. Straight after dinner the animals are fed without the usual reminder and nagging. They are rinsing mugs after using them and popping their dishes in the dishwasher. This was previously a constant request that was done only occasionally. They are even making their own lunches and making sure things are ready for school the night before.<br/>
<br/>
I have always had a theory that people mostly do what they need to. You have some that do as little as possible and some who do as much as they can, but the majority of people will perform at a comfortable level of participation and bring on their best game when it is essential. Our little team is sensing the need for full participation right now and as a result we seem to be running smoothly towards the finish line.<br/>
<br/>
What changes are you experiencing right now?<br/>
