Things I know ... about the state of us

As we draw closer to the end of the year I can feel things reaching a crescendo.
I can feel the gumpiness in our house,  I can feel the patience wearing thin, I can feel the weariness. And that is literally before I look beyond myself.

So these are the things evident to me this week:
  1. 1. Sibling rivalry is rampant in our house as tired brother and sister snap and bicker with each other in frustration.
  2. As the weather becomes warmer and more predictible we are drawn to spend more time outdoors, with the threat of dangerous UV rays hanging over our heads.
  3. I am seriously overdue for a massage!
  4. There is much channel surfing going on in our household as we desperately seek something decent to watch.
  5. I am tending to block out the world with music more and more.

The calm after the storm

Thank God for nature documentaries!
Master 4 just couldn't last the afternoon without a sleep, and then woke in a foul mood. Nothing would please him. In desperation, hubby was channel surfing (actually he does this a lot). There was much moaning and need for attention from Master 4.

Then hubby came across the delightful sound of the voice of Sir David Attenborough. Now, my father is a big fan of nature documentaries, but they are something I tend to watch if nothing else is on. I don't believe we have any in our video/DVD collection. Similarly, I have never had a fondness for Sir Attenborough's voice, before now. Obviously it was the crisp silence and sense of peace it brought to our household.

The documentary was on whales, I believe. Unfortunately, it ended about 10 minutes after it's discovery.

And the moaning continued, as if there had been no interruption. Obviously, my next purchase in the DVD aisle will be nature orientated.

Ahh .. the serenity.

Grateful for .... electricity.

As I snuggled down next to hubby in bed this week, we oooohed and aaaahed at our pre-warmed bed. My lamp beside the bed was on so I could catch up on the daily catalogues. The television in our room was on and hubby was channel surfing. And that's about all I will tell you about our activities in the bedroom that night.
The point of the blog is... electricity.

I was saying to hubby that in the midst of Winter, with snow falling around our valley and a ghastly breeze outside strong enough to blow the milk out of your tea, how we took it for granted that everything is at the flick of a switch.

There is a book I'm wanting to read about a great change to the world that results in people going back to basic practices. The name of the book escapes me at this moment, but I hope it comes to me soon or I won't be able to read it! I think about this often. What if .... suddenly there was no power? What if .... we lost all current forms of communication? This is almost beyond my depth of thought to think I might be without Blogger and Facebook.
