Wordless Wednesday - Juniors Wrap Up A Great Season In AFL

While we still have AFL Finals to be decided, Football for juniors has finished. Our first year within the STJFL (Southern Tasmania Junior Football League) was rewarding for both the players and parents. I am a huge advocate of team sports. I am sure we will be back next year.

Wordless Wednesday - Not Too Cold To Paddle in Tasmanian Waters

Poor Tasmania suffers a lot of backlash in regard to it's weather. Many would describe Tasmanian weather as cold and wet, and whilst this can be sometimes true, the weather here is often great, and it's seasons and predictability is changing. My son wasted no time in making the most of the water when Southern Tasmanian served up great weather for Easter. He wasn't the only one paddling around in the water either.

Down The Bumpy Road Together on Thankful Thursday

This week was a little bumpy in every sense of the word for our little family. The weather hit hard, I came down hard at Netball, my daughter learned some hard lessons about friendship, poor hubby was pulled in every direction, and my son and our fur babies have been pushing boundaries. Even though, I feel there is much to be thankful for this week.

  • I have been injured and getting back on my feet this week, and although it is a slow process, I know I am making progress.
  • The weekend brought some chilly weather, and a batch of snow which always brings delight to our household.

  •   My daughter had a sleepover with her bestie. This was something they had been planning for a long time, but quite a bit has happened between them in the meantime. Miss 10 has learned quite a bit about friendship, the games that can be played, and about staying true to yourself in the process. They remain friends and she had a good time at the sleepover, but I think it has been quite a big growth period for her.
  • Not only did hubby attend to his poor, injured wife in her time of need and ongoing disability, he also has been rounding up the children, attending to the family animals, keeping our home tidy and our bellies fed, AND responding in less than ideal conditions to calls of distress from the community in regard to the heavy rainfall, winds and flooding in the area. On top of this, he has understandably has come down with a cold of his own!
  • Not to be outdone, Mr 6 is the usual ball of energy. He seems torn at the moment, after his recent Parent/Teacher/Student meeting and School Report, between wanting to move forward with his reading and writing, and not wanting to knuckle down to do the work required. Ho hum ..... how many more years of school left?
  • Our dogs which you can meet here and here, have been having a ball in the backyard together, shredding the grass, getting muddy and generally enjoying life by making a mess in the rain as only dogs can. The guinea pigs seem quite oblivious to the rain, given there raised homes, but they have been consistent to letting anyone in earshot know, no matter which side of the fence they be on, that they love their food and are always happy for more.
Always eventful, but always full of lesson and laughter!

Introducing Some Cuteness

I have been keeping something from you. We have been enjoying and getting to know a special little lady, and she has been getting a lot of attention at our house. The guilt of keeping her to ourselves has been overwhelming though, and I thought it only fair to share the cuteness with you all.

Her name is Pippa and she is a German Short Haired Pointer. We have had her just over a month, which makes her 5 months old now. She will be a great companion for Gypsy.

Pippa belongs to Master 6, and they have been getting along well. They are probably on par with their cheekiness.

Lucky they are both so cute!

Thanks For The Valuable Lessons

Last year, as our son started his new adventures in Prep at "The Big School", hubby and I voiced our opinion to the school which teacher was "our" choice. The teacher we had chosen was known to us, having taught our daughter at the same age. More important, to us, than knowing the teacher, was knowing her technique and structure in the classroom.

We feel that this decision served our son well, as he integrated into full time school life. Perhaps if we had any choice of teacher in Kindergarten, he would have struggled less?

This year, whilst being assigned the same teacher, it was to be for only the first two weeks of the 1st term, as she had made plans at the end of last year to move interstate.

While we are saddened to see our school lose a good teacher, we feel that our son has benefited greatly from learning from her in his first year.

The areas of growth and learning he experienced were less to do with reading and mathematics, but more along on the lines of behaviour and maturity whilst in the school setting and amongst his peers.

I think that, at such a young age, that this is an important starting platform.

His teacher placed great importance on listening, following instruction, showing respect to your peers, speaking with confidence, being rewarded for outstanding behaviour, encouraging family communication, representing the school ideals, and trying your best.

With these lessons fresh in his mind, he can build on his education and we look forward to a fresh face, and new learning opportunities with his new teacher.

Boys And Things That Wriggle

With the fishing season well and truly in full swing, Master 6 is in his glee with all things wriggly.

I actually don't mind them ... what about you?

Boys and Knots

I didn't go into parenting blind. I knew it was going to be challenging and some days I would be at my wits end .... but parenting AND washing .. should.not.be.this.hard!
Should washing socks be so hard?

What Was That For?

The look on his face as he says for what must be the millionth time "what was that for?", is pure innocence. It would be fair to say that our son is always on the look out for adventure and invariably gets himself into multitudes of trouble.

Master 5 is quite the expert at timeout, not to mention having his favourite things banned. Neither of these punishments seem to dull his need to poke, prod and pull things that he is not meant to.

Is he seeking attention? A troublemaker? Or just a curious boy with a good amount of energy?

We are quite sure he is quite run of the mill when it comes to boys. Also being second born assured he was keen for adventure from the get go.

His face is just as cheeky as his nature.

I should be putting all of our savings on backing that Master 5 will be standing in front of various people throughout his life, trying to justify his actions.
