Review: Murine Eye Mist for Dry Eye

On a daily basis our eyes endure a lot. For me, it involves sitting at a computer screen for hours, in an air-conditioned office,  then heading out into a dry Australian climate where dust and pollen are getting whipped around in the breeze. The result? Tired, sore, dry, itchy eyes!

Dry eyes are a common problem with many possible causes including air-conditioned or windy environments, extended computer work, wearing contact lenses, long distance travel, ageing and medication. More than two million Australians are suffering and according to some estimates as many as 75 per cent of people over the age of 65 experience dry eye. What are the symptoms I hear you ask.

• ·         A scratchy or gritty sensation in the eyes
• ·         Excessive tearing
• ·         Blurred vision
• ·         Easily irritated by dry indoor environments
• ·         Pain and redness of the eye
• ·         Heavy eyelids
• ·         Uncomfortable contact lenses

I don't suffer from Dry Eyes as such, but they get tired and certainly itchy and irritated with Hayfever. With this in mind, I wondered what I could say about Murine Eye Mist ... but I soon discovered it is a handy product to have and has many application possibilities.

My first chance came with the common Hayfever symptom of itchy eyes. Rather than put up with the itch or pop an Anti-Histamine I decided to use the Murine Eye Mist, with the hope that it would wash out the dust or whatever was causing the allergic reaction. I closed my eyes one at a time and applied a few sprays to each closed eyelid. After blinking a few times to allow the solution to enter the eye and do it's work, I felt instant relief. How about that!! Such a simple and fast result.

So I now had a direct bond and connection with this eye spray. I could certainly put this to use.

The next opportunity came from hubby. He had been out in the garage doing what men do best, which usually involves power tools, noise and mess. He was removing paint with a wire brush. Despite wearing eye protection, hubby had managed to get a speck of paint on his eye. This speck would not budge, no matter how much he massaged the lid over the top. I broke out the Murine Eye Mist with hope that it could get that paint speck moving. I have some experience in close contact with the eye, having worked in within the Optometry industry for years. Hubby HATES anything near his eyes, as many people do. So he braced himself, but was ecstatic to hear that he could close his eyes while I sprayed his closed eyelid. It took quite a few sprays and a lot of blinking, but it worked in loosening the paint speck so I could gently remove it.

Would I recommend it? Absolutely! There must be so many instances in our daily lives where our eye could do with a little added moisture and relief.

Hobart Lines Up To View HMAS Sydney

HMAS Sydney and crew blessed Hobart with it's presence and beauty this weekend, in conjunction with The 2015 Hobart Regatta. Tours of the ship were available at Macquarie Wharf2, while it's helicopters performed several displays for the Regatta crowd.

The crew of HMAS Sydney were awesome. They welcomed everyone to view their world and were very encouraging to look, ask questions, explore, ask us to be in your photos (this was a true suggestion as we boarded).

Master 8 had a ball trying on the gear and feeling the weight of the vests. Some of those vests are seriously heavy!

There was just a slight difference between Master 8's outfit and the officer behind in fit, so I guess it would be a while before they could take him into their fold.

There may be nothing pretty or colourful about the HMAS Sydney or any of the ships in the Royal Australian Navy, but the flags certainly brighten the scene and give it flair .... almost like it's own bling.

 The HMAS Sydney felt important and the crew spoke about their ship with pride and passion. Having been launched in 1980, HMAS Sydney is the fourth ship of this name and it has played an important role in Australia's Defence history. HMAS Sydney has deployed to the Middle East four times, with Desert Storm and the Gulf War, supporting UN sanctions against Iraq, East Timor and  Solomon Islands, and Iraq War all listed on its impressive resume. Being one of the four ADELAIDE Class Guided Missile Frigates in service it plays an important role in providing air defence, anti-submarne and anti-shipping warfart, surveillance, and reconnaissance.

It strikes me now that the t-shirt is quite fitting given his prop.

 There was a lot to see and some very expensive, technical equipment. The tour took about 50 minutes as we moved about the ship and explored from bow to the flight deck and the narrow corridors and stairs in between. We passed the Captain's chair and took in his usual view.      The crew were extremely friendly and informative as they answered every question.

Long Weekends in Australia Are For Sight Seeing

Australia and the long weekends go hand in hand. Our family have enjoyed some time away, taking in local sites of Tasmania and enjoying some simple activities together while not spending a fortune.

We recently chose to stay at Snug, just south of Hobart. We stayed at the Snug Caravan Park, which we loved with it's Camp Kitchen, clean bathrooms and location right next to the beach.
Starting our day by waking in our campervan, we moved outdoors to the sunshine to sit and cook a BBQ breakfast of eggs and bacon, and a drink of apple juice. The kids went for a frolic on the beach while hubby and I got some things together for a drive.

 Snug has some lovely surrounding towns and attractions. We head to the next town, Margate where we visit the Margate Train, known for it's carriages selling pancakes, doll houses, books and lollies.

From here we take a right turn to head through the beautiful countryside that will bring us to Tinderbox. We marvel at the views as we drive and the gorgeous houses that have been built to take in the views. We turn down the road where there is a boat ramp and we arrive at a nice area complete with toilet, swings and BBQ facilities. The water to the right of the boat ramp follows the small sandstone cliff, and there are rock shelves that reach out into the water. It makes for great discovery around the smooth cliffs and in the rockpools. The area is know for its shallow water and accessibility and there is a group getting ready for a dive class.

Back in the vehicle, and we follow the road further to the town of Blackmans Bay. This seaside town has grown tremendously with a great build up of housing and amenities. We drive along the Esplanade, where there are people gathering at the restaurant and others strolling or exercising.

We head back toward Snug along the highway, but not before calling into Dru Point at Margate for a well deserved play on the equipment for the kids and coffees for hubby and I. This playground is well known in Southern Tasmania. It is well planned, with lots of great equipment and right near the water.

What a gorgeous part of Tasmania with so much to see and do without parting with lots of cash.

Watching AFL: Make Sure To Block Your Ears

I remember watching AFL on TV when I was quite young . Actually, I probably wanted to watch cartoons, but my brother would have been in charge of the remote control, so good old Footy it was.

My brother was the reason I started watching AFL, and he was also the decider on which team to go for. It was, and always has been, Hawthorn. As far as picks go, his decision has served me well over the years.

As we come to the pointy end of the AFL season, with tipping all finished (not that it got me anywhere financially, but someone has to fund the winners), I am excited to see The Mighty Hawks vying for a spot in the finals.

I have been a somewhat complacent fan over the years, but the last few years have seen more involvement in tipping competitions and social gatherings on Grand Final Day. Both money and some friendly competition is always healthy in keeping the interest in sport fresh.

I will be in front of the TV supporting The Hawks, hopefully through to the Final, but no matter who is playing, you can guarantee I will be screaming like a banshee (much to the amusement of some and the embarrassment of the kids).

Bring on the footy jumpers and scarves, the chip and dip, and the kick of the football at half time. I look forward to this time of year - awfully Australian, I know.

Family Holidays On The Farm

There is so much to do on a farm. Especially, when you are a child visiting during the holidays.

The animals were a real hit, especially the baby Wallaby. A holiday on an Australian farm is full of adventure and fresh air.

ANZAC DAY And Inspired Children

I am in hiding. The bedroom could be the only safe place for me right now. My house has come alive as three children fight their own war full of ammo, hideouts, tactics and pleas for mercy.

All three were witness to the proud display of the local ANZAC DAY March this morning. They had many questions about the people we honour each year, the people who were marching in memory of a loved one, and those who stood in uniform armed with guns.

The TV has been full of media coverage of Marches across the nation as well as movies relevant to the wars.

Miss 9, Master 5, and their neighbourhood friend have been thinking of nothing else all day, and even though they don't understand the full magnitude of the importance of ANZAC DAY, it was inevitable that this war had to happen.

The camouflage tent is shelter and considered safe. There are various types of Nerf guns being handed around. Spent ammo is littered across the lounge room floor. Each one has chosen which country they are fighting for.

Luckily, when they tire of this game, the guns, ammo and tent will be packed away. Thankfully, unlike a real war, this is an option for them. Hopefully, this will be as close as they get to any war. I'm sure every Mother has wished this same thing.

Tasmania Zoo: Great Family Activity

The Macaw was very entertaining

 Our children love animals. I don't know many that don't. We have a lot of opportunity in Tasmania to see wildlife regularly, still, a trip to the Zoo is always a great experience. Tasmania Zoo has been on our agenda for a while. So when we headed north on our latest family trip to Launceston, Tasmania Zoo was the first activity we popped on our must-see list.

Tasmania Zoo is a short drive out of Launceston, situated 18 kilometers on the outskirts of Riverside, on a sprawling 900 acres of bushland.

The huge range of animals to see is amazing. We were certainly spoilt for choice in the variety of species and the layout of the Zoo is such that you leisurely stroll along the displays. From exotic birds to monkeys, from Australian treasures to foreign beauties, from the quiet to the noisy, Tasmania Zoo has covered it all, and something tells me that they have not finished yet in their design and choices on offer.

Whether you want to stroll and discover at your own pace, or join a tour, the choice is there. You can also experience the various feeding times throughout the day of many of the animals. The staff are joyous to watch as they interact with the animals, while answering your questions and sharing their knowledge.

I have added just a sample of pictures below of what is on offer, so as not to spoil your experience.

Our family loved the Tasmania Zoo and will be returning to experience some of the extra options on the list besides the basic tour.
