Wordless Wednesday - Juniors Wrap Up A Great Season In AFL

While we still have AFL Finals to be decided, Football for juniors has finished. Our first year within the STJFL (Southern Tasmania Junior Football League) was rewarding for both the players and parents. I am a huge advocate of team sports. I am sure we will be back next year.

Watching AFL: Make Sure To Block Your Ears

I remember watching AFL on TV when I was quite young . Actually, I probably wanted to watch cartoons, but my brother would have been in charge of the remote control, so good old Footy it was.

My brother was the reason I started watching AFL, and he was also the decider on which team to go for. It was, and always has been, Hawthorn. As far as picks go, his decision has served me well over the years.

As we come to the pointy end of the AFL season, with tipping all finished (not that it got me anywhere financially, but someone has to fund the winners), I am excited to see The Mighty Hawks vying for a spot in the finals.

I have been a somewhat complacent fan over the years, but the last few years have seen more involvement in tipping competitions and social gatherings on Grand Final Day. Both money and some friendly competition is always healthy in keeping the interest in sport fresh.

I will be in front of the TV supporting The Hawks, hopefully through to the Final, but no matter who is playing, you can guarantee I will be screaming like a banshee (much to the amusement of some and the embarrassment of the kids).

Bring on the footy jumpers and scarves, the chip and dip, and the kick of the football at half time. I look forward to this time of year - awfully Australian, I know.

1st Fun Run - City to Casino

Now that I am finally over the experience of my 1st City to Casino, I wanted to let you know....

IT WAS GREAT!

Having never even attended a fun run before, it was exciting, nerve-racking, and exhausting all at the same time.

I entered in the 7km Walk event as part of the Blundstone Corporate team. I was thrilled to be part of this event that saw a record number of entrants this year. The City To Casino raises funds for The Heart Foundation which is such a good cause.

My event started at Cornelian Bay and finished at the iconic Wrest Point Casino in Sandy Bay. If you enter at a walking level, you can walk, shuffle, jog and run to get yourself to the finish line. So, being my first event, I did a combination of walking and jogging (there may have been a little shuffling).

I crossed the line at exactly one hour, which gives me a good and achievable goal for next year.

Just a tip: If you can enter events like this one as a Corporate team member, the perks are usually worth it, like the entry fee paid for and the 10 minute massage at the end.

Do you have any experience with Fun Runs? Maybe you have also entered The City To Casino in Tasmania, or better still, maybe you entered this year too?

Are you a team player?

With the first roster done and dusted, I thought it about time I updated on my Team Sport effort. We had a great season and made it to the first final for our Grade, and were then wiped out. I looked forward to each and every game through the roster, even when I knew we would lose.

Netball for me, firstly is for fun and fitness, and secondly for competition. Everyone likes to win, undoubtedly, but as long as I felt good at the end from the exercise and social interaction, then it was a good game.

Playing one or more Team Sports is part of my 2012 TO DO LIST

If you read the post Painfully Obvious when I first got back into it after 8 years,  you may have thought that I would quit after a couple of games. I know hubby was shocked to see me go back after that first game. His exact words as I walked in the door that night was "wow, you look like crap". I probably did, but I had so much fun running around the court I didn't care.

The thing I love about team sport is being accountable to the rest of the team. So, even when I am all cosy at home and we are scheduled to play a 9pm game, I have the knowledge that the rest of the team are counting on me to turn up. Accountability is important if, like me, you can find an excuse to not exercise.

We finished off the season with a Dinner and Presentation Night, which was just what we needed. It was lovely seeing all the girls tizzed up and letting loose on the dance floor.

The Winter roster starts this week. Whilst I am grateful that we play inside at the Sports Centre, it can still get very cold. A great excuse to warm up quickly and run harder.

Happiness is ..Best things in life

It's official. Yet another study has found that the quality of life in Australia is right up there with the best.
Not surprisingly, the study has also found that people are less likely to measure happiness in terms of success or money. This is good for the majority of us, who are neither on the successful or rich list. And a great relief in times of economic uncertainty. So what does bring us happiness?

It was found that more people rated their happiness on "life's good moments" which incorporated social and sporting activities, and more importantly were shared with others.

I am a huge believer of this. Who wants to do something that creates excitement and joy on their own? How many could say that the happiest moments in their lives were experienced while alone?

Apparently, social media and technology have played a big role in this happiness as people are able to share things with others quicker and more freely.

You can read more on the study here.

The Daily Telegraph's story on the LG social study

So I will continue to experience life and it's less expensive activities, whilst sharing them with those around me.
How do you feel money and success rate in feeling happy?
